Learn How/Why/When to Lollipop your Plants!
What up GreenBox Growers, and welcome back to the plant training techniques video section! Now in today's episode we're going to be covering everything you need to know about lollipopping your cannabis plants right at home. And we will be demonstrating this right on my plants from my current OG Kush screen of green grow. Now lollipopping is great for increasing yields as well as getting bigger denser buds above the canopy. And it is also excellent for preventing any larfy nugs from developing down below the canopy. So it is going to give you very similar results to defoliation, it is just a little bit of a different technique and we will get more details about that in this video.
So of course we will be covering when is the best time to do the lollipopping on your cannabis plant, we will show you guys exactly how to do it properly to maximize those results, and then finally I will be explaining why lollipopping is so important for your cannabis plants and I will dive a little more and detail on that. So now that you guys know what we are doing in today's video, Let's head over to the OG Kush tent to get started with that lollipopping!
Okay so here we are at the OG Kush tent, and as you can see I have already added that second layer of the scrog net. Now I have also already done the lollipopping to 3 of the plants. And then one of them, the fourth planet has yet to be done, and that is the one we will be demonstrating on today for you guys. I first just wanted to show you guys what we are aiming for and what kind of results you want to get, and what it should look like once you have already done it. So again above the scrog net, our goal is to basically remove about 20% of all foliage just so we can allow her more light penetration through the canopy. When it comes to below the canopy, we are going to be removing all growth and foliage from the lower third of the plant.
So you can see here all of that has been taken away on these three plants and then this front right one you can see how it is still really bushy in that area. Now above the scrog or the upper canopy area it is also a good idea to remove any leaves that are kind of damaged or yellowed as well as the really large ones. And then you can leave the small ones behind. Not for the best time to do your lollipopping and again this is just something you do once for each grow. You're going to want to do it about a day to two days maximum before you flip them to flower.
So again you are going to want to remove All of that lower grows from the lower third, and then you are going to want to thin out everything above that for maximum light penetration to the lower part of the canopy. Now the reason we do this or why we do it is because it isn't going to allow for like I was just saying, that extra light penetration which will then develop more solid and denser nugs. If enough light or if there is not enough light reaching down below there you are going to get really Airy, larfy, sort of popcorn nugs, and they are not going to be fully developed or very potent. So we want to avoid as much of that as possible, and then again removing that lower third of all growth allows for more Bud development above the canopy, larger buds as well and denser buds of course.
Now one thing I forgot to mention is not only are we removing leaves but we are also removing branches or tops that don't look like they are going to make it up through the canopy. Reason being as those aren't going to receive enough light to actually develop enough so you want to just completely remove those all together right at the base of the stem. Now the best way to do this is just like with your default location, you just want to use a clean and sterile pair of Fiskar scissors.
And when removing the leaves make sure to do it not right at the base of the stem but make sure to leave 1/4 to 1/8 of the stem left just so there isn't any infection. All right guys that covers everything in terms of one to do the lollipopping, why it is so important to do so and then of course how to do it. So now what I'm going to do is demonstrate on this fourth plant that we have yet to lollipop and then I'm just going to show you guys exactly how we do it. And then that will pretty much concluded today's video on how to lollipop your plants at home.
Alright Growers, so that is everything you need to know about how to lollipop your very own cannabis plants at home. And remember that is absolutely crucial to take this stuff and do it about 24 hours before you put those plants into flower. I will be back shortly with some more plant training technique videos such as low stress training and then a few others. But in the meantime I just want to give you guys a big thank you for watching today's video, I really hope you enjoy it in until next time
