Properly use a SCROG for Maximum Yields!
What up GreenBox Growers and welcome back to the Plant training techniques video section! Now you guys already know this section is all about showing you guys the different techniques you can use with your home grown cannabis plants, to help increase the size of your yields per grow. As well as help you with growing denser buds. On today's episode we are going to be discussing SCROG nets which of course stands for screen of green. And I know I've already put out a video on this topic but today we are going to go into a little more detail and a little more in depth, and also I am going to show you guys how to set up a scrog net on a real actual grow! So now that you guys know what we are doing and today's video, let's get started by adding our scrog and net by Growers scrog Nets to our agent orange grow All right room!
Alright so here we are at the agent orange grow tent and you will see I opened up the scrog net and I have it set up right here. So before we get started I just want to give a huge shout out to Grower scrog nets for hooking us up with their double-layered adjustable scrog net here. This is a really awesome product as you guys will see in this video, you guys can check out more details at growerscrognets.com. So just a big thank you for hooking us up with that! Now you can see this is a decently sized net for our 2X4 tent, but like I was saying it is adjustable so it can stretch as well as be folded over so that it doesn't take up too much space and is tight enough in the setup. Of course you can make your own scrog net at home out of wood and string, we do have some videos on how to do that under the scrog grow series a video section.
Now as you can see the plants are looking really bushy, they have a lot of talks here and it has been about three or four weeks of vegetation so far, so we are at a very good time for adding the scrog net. Because like I was just saying we already have a lot of that bushy growth going on. So once you are ready to add your scrog net it is important that you put it not right on top of the plants that you want to make sure there is about 3 to 5 inches of space from the tops so that they can grow up to it. And then you can start training them through it. If you put them at right on them and kind of push it down on the top parts of the plants, that is just going to stress them out, and it is going to make it so they can't grow properly through the scrog net. So in the video after this where I'm going to be setting it up, you will see how I leave that space above.
Now it usually only takes a few days for the plants to reach the net from that height above, and then they will start having individual Topps growing through the scrog net. Once that starts to happen, what you will want to do is pull those tops back down through the net and then out horizontally from the center of the plant so the top can then grow up during you square that is further away. Now what this does is it opens up the canopy some more some more light can penetrate down to those lower nodes, allowing for more tops to grow up to the scrog net. Now what the scrog net also helps with is keeping all of your tops at the same height, and what that will do is make it so they all get the same amount of lighting from your grow light aw, allowing them to all get just as big as each other. That way none are shading others making it so they don't get fully developed or as dense buds.
Now before I add the scrog net to these two plants right here, I want to show you guys a grow that is a little further along and already has grown through the scrog net and is actually ready for their second layer. So this is my current OG Kush Screen of Green Grow that is going on right now and you guys can check that out under our indoor grow series section.
And let me just get this tent open a little further so you can see how much they have grown above the scrog net. So not only can you see that all of the top or most of the tops have grown through it but you can see they are a good 6in on average above it. Or they have grown a good 6in about the SCROG net. Now like I was just saying you can add a second layer to it, and that is why the scrog net to come with two of them like you see here.
I will be adding a second layer to this tent in about four days, and what that will do is help support those taller branches that stretch out during the flowering phase. And it is just going to allow you to open up the canopy that much more, so sometimes you will notice later on in the flowering phase if you get some really big dense nugs on some taller or lankier plants. You will notice those branches starting to lean, and if they get heavy enough they can even lean to the point where they snap. So having this SCROG net supporting those individual branches or buds will make it so that issue does not happen.
Another thing that is really important is once you have your scrog net about 90, 80 to 90%. Is when you want to flip it to flower. Now you can see this is 100% full but I am adding that second layer which is why I have not slipped to flower yet. But in most cases I like to wait until you know pretty much every square has a top just poking through it, and then that is a great time to flip your plants to flower. Now we are also going to be doing a lollipopping and a defoliation before we flip these plants to flower, but I will have another video coming out on that to show you exactly how to lollipop your plants for maximum yields.
Alright guys so now that you have had a chance to check out our OG Kush scrog tent right here that already has the scrog net filled and is just about ready for the second layer. What we are going to do is take this grognet and I am going to demonstrate in this video, how to add it above your plants using these agent orange ladies right here. So let's go get started with that!
Alright GreenBox Growers, that officially concludes today's video on how to use and properly add your scrog net to your grow room. Now that last clip where I was showing you guys the addition of the scrog net in the agent orange tent, I also give you guys another clip of the OG Kush plants that already go through the scrog net. And in that clip I was just showing you guys the proper technique for training your branches horizontally through a square that is further away on the scrog net from the center of the plant. Just so you guys know how to use it properly once or plants start to grow through it. So as I was saying also earlier, I will be back shortly with more plant training technique videos, so be on the lookout for that lollipopping video coming soon. And as always thank you guys for watching this week's video, I really hope you enjoyed it and until next time…
