Pressing Top-Shelf Rosin at Home!
Hello and welcome back for another Episode of GreenBox Grown! In this video I show you how to press Top-Shelf Rosin right at home, using my Manual Rosineer Rosin Press. So the first thing you need to do is get all your supplies together. First you will need your cannabis of course, and the quality of bud you use has direct impact on the quality of the rosin and your yields. In todays video, I am pressing some homegrown Double Tangie Banana and will be doing 2 grams at a time.
Next you will need a scale so you can weigh out how much weed you’re pressing each time. I have found 2 grams at a time works best with this machine, but you can grow up to 4 grams while still getting great results. Next you’re gonna need a pollen press, or something you can use to pre-press your cannabis nugs. This is important because packing the weed together before hand allows for a more even and thorough press, which leads to higher yields! Finally, you will need parchment paper for pressing the rosin onto. I normally use the unbleached raw paper, but I will be using regular white parchment paper today so you can see the rosin more easily.
Now that you have your supplies together, it is time to turn on the rosin press and set the temperature. My rosin press is in Celsius so that is the temperature readings I’ll use. What I have found is the lower the temp, the better, as it allows for a higher yield and higher quality rosin. I have been using 100 degrees celsius as that’s the temp giving me the best results. What I have also found with the lower temps is it creates a much more stable rosin which is easy to pick up with a dabber and use. Now that your temperature is set, wait for the machine to heat up and then you are ready to go!
Now weigh out your desired amount of weed you want to press and pack it into the pollen press. I recommend only packing the press half way down, as you don't want to over pack the weed. Now that it’s been packed, push out the puck and put it on a piece of parchment paper that has been folded in half. The bud should be covered top and bottom by the parchment paper and should be directly in the center. Begin pulling the lever down slowly, so the bud has a chance to heat up before being completely pressed. This is another way to help increase yields! Continue to pull the lever down until it locks in place, and then listen close for the bud to begin to sizzle. If you separate the parchment paper at this point, you will also be able to see the rosin oozing out of the bud! Since this is set at a low temperature, you can press the bud for longer without causing damage to the rosin. I recommend 45 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds per press for best results.
After the time is up, lift the lever up and see how much rosin you yielded. Before you can smoke this liquid gold, I recommend letting it cool down so it can harden up before you use it. After about 5-10 minutes it is good for use! Now you’re probably wondering what you should do the the pancake of weed that is left over from the press. First, you can re-press it to get the rest of what’s left out. Or you can use it for making edibles and tinctures. If you repress it, I recommend pressing for 3 minutes to get the most out.
